PhilMod was founded in January 2023 by Étienne Brown, a philosophy professor at the University of Ottawa, Canada. He currently co-organizes the group with Hanna Kiri Gunn (UC Merced), Jeffrey Howard (UCL), and Sarah Fisher (Cardiff U.).
